Specialised Engines Ltd have been building standard and modified engines for 40 years. Our modern 10,000 sq ft factory is equipped with all the machinery for carrying out the following :

Crankshaft Grinding , Stroking and Polishing , Reboring , overboring , Sleeving and Cylinder Honing ,Line Boring , Reaming and Line Honing , Surface Grinding , Cylinder Head Reconditioning , Modifying and Flow Bench Testing , Static and Dynamic Balancing , Tuftriding , Bead Blasting , Helicoil Inserting , Degreasing , Con Rod Honing and Reclamation , Engine Building. Plus we always carry a large stock of Pistons , Bearings , Gaskets , Camshafts , Carburettors , Oil and Petrol Pumps etc.

Payment

All payment is made on completion of work. We accept Visa , MasterCard , Eurocard , American Express , Bankers Drafts and Building Society Cheques. Private and Company Cheques only accepted once cleared – usually 10 banking days. VAT at the current rate to be added to all prices quoted. Prices and Specifications subject to change without prior notice.

NOTES: Please supply all parts clean, ready to be machined , otherwise there will be an extra charge as necessary. All parts will require cleaning / degreasing before assembly. This service is not included in the price of machining. Our policy is to consult you , the customer , if any additional work , incurring more cost is involved. Please leave a contact name and number. Trade and Car Owners’ Club discounts are only given with positive proof of ID (Club or Trade Card) and must be confirmed before hand.

Because we have our own freehold premises and do the majority of work ‘in house’ our prices are very keen. Compare us to the rest. You will see we are the best.

All prices are based on standard units , with parts in good condition , cleaned , ready for machining.

Crankshaft Grinding (Including final polishing)

Car : £3.50 per journal

Heavy Car / Commercial : from £4.50 per journal

Restroking :

Up to 0.020″ for 4 journals £37.50

Up to 0.020″ for 6 journals £49.50

Polishing :

Only for bearing surfaces which are within tolerance or have been tuftrided. Operational times can vary , so prices are approximate only. Firm price given on inspection.

7 journal from £14.00

9 journal from £17.50 etc.

Crossdrilling, Sleeving, Submerged Argon Arc Welding, Straightening and Tuftriding.

Prices on application, depending on condition and type of crank, on inspection.

Reboring :

To first oversize; including honing Up to 4.5″ bore size, per bore £5.00

Overboring :

For example, to second cut (say 0.060″) add 75 per cent to above prices

4 Cylinder : becomes £36.00 6 Cylinder : becomes £54.00

Sleeving

Prices on application as it varies, depending on whether stepped or flanged type, or any counterboring or cut-outs required. All the above add 15 per cent if customer supplies own pistons.

Cylinder Honing :

This varies according to time taken, whether cross hatch or plateau honing is required, and condition of bores on initial inspection.

Line Boring :

Example : Ford block 3 main bearing to standard size (where possible) : £64.00

3 main bearing to 0.015″ O/D : £96.00 / 5 main bearing add £10.00 to both prices.

Line Reaming :

Valve Spring Seat relieving :

To suit high lift cams, this will stop coil binding of the valve springs.

Vacuum Testing :

Vac Testing will show us that all the valves are seating correctly.

This can be performed on any cylinder head and can save a lot of problems with seating valves.

Engine Balancing :

All static and Dynamic Balancing is carried out on the premises. While-U-Wait service for 4-Cylinder Engines. For all V-type engine balancing, we require one complete piston con rod, bearing set, damper, flywheel, clutch and all relevant bolts.

Lead Free Conversions

Can only be done on Standard and Stage 1 heads – Not possible to fit bigger valves. All new exhaust valve seat inserts, all new bronze valve guide inserts. Standard heads. Ports lightly gas flowed to retain power.

Degreasing :

Our Metalis rotating hot chemical wash degreases the vast majority of parts.

Complete Cleaning Cycle :

If further cleaning is necessary, then parts can be immersed in an acid bath “dip” and finally rinsed in oil.

Beadblasting :

Parts must first be cleaned/degreased

We have specialised in Ford Standard and Modified engines for 50 years, with our own fitting bays, including in most cases a same-day fitting service. But we also undertake the building of other makes.

Local Area (5 mile radius of factory) – F.O.C., Parcels up to 25kg – £10.00 each way, within main areas of UK mainland. All other parcels and areas – P.O.A.
